This weekend was an excellent example of our community commitment. Our Community Manager for Pacers Running, Elyse Braner, set up an event with Fit DC. The goal was to go for a run from the Navy Yard store and, along the way, pick up as much litter as possible from the Anacostia Waterfront.
Words by Chris Farley -
At Pacers Running, there are many little things we do that add up to big things. One of those big things is our commitment to the communities we live in - how we support those communities is a lot of little things added together.
This weekend was an excellent example of our community commitment. Our Community Manager for Pacers Running, Elyse Braner, set up an event with Fit DC. The goal was to go for a run from the Navy Yard store and, along the way, pick up as much litter as possible from the Anacostia Waterfront.
You never really know if these events will work or if people will even show up! But fortunately, with our running community, I’m rarely ever disappointed.
Here’s what happened this past Sunday:
Over 50 people showed up.
The group ran and “plogged” together
We picked up over 500 pounds of trash from the Water Front.
We made a difference in the community and got fit while doing it.
Thanks to DC Parks and Rec, who made it possible. Thanks to Little Sesame for the delicious treats and DJ Heat for bringing it all morning on the Pacers patio. And thanks to On Running for the shoes for our people to use along the way.
Finally, big props to Fit DC - thanks for doing both the little and big things to make our communities fit.
